Loved it! Excellent service, beautiful food. My dietary requirements handled well by James my waiter. Thank you

Excellent food, wine and ambiance. Friendly staff and a decent price. Far and away the best option in Lancaster!

Intimate diner & bar, near to Lancaster railway station. The dining area is a long room, with subdued lighting, with domed brick exposed roof, giving a cave like feel. Service is good & staff are friendly & efficient. Good food menu & decent wine selection. Toilets are up a set of stairs, which can be awkward to manoeuvre...

Easily one of the best places for dinner in Lancaster. Don't expect the light, traditional local 'pub' atmosphere, it's more akin to places like the Inn at Whitewell. There's no Sky Sports here, which is good. Great place to take a date, the small size and historical features - the exposed ceiling of the cellar - make for an intimate atmosphere. The stairs are annoying, though separating the dining area from the bar was a good call. The food is impeccable (get the duck) and fairly priced. Keep an eye out for offers - the free bottle of wine on Mondays wasn't bad but I don't know if they still do it, and the early bird menu mid-week is pretty decent. The service is perfect and though there aren't many tables I've never had trouble getting one during the week, but I'd suggest not going at weekends without a booking. Staff are properly trained and welcoming, one of them is a serious stunner and I couldn't concentrate on the food. Also good for afternoon coffee.

I had yet another great evening in the Merchants. The food, which was recommended by the waiter, was outstanding. (I had the spicy lamb which was 12 out of 10). The service was great, the staff were very welcoming, the food was top restaurant quality and was great value for money. I would recommend a visit.
